Just last month, a study by Newcastle University (Newcastle upon Tyne, England, United Kingdom) discovered that the activity of a specific enzyme in the human skin declines with age. As a person ages, this enzyme becomes less active and signs of skin aging appear. Scientists theorize that if a product could increase this particular enzyme’s activity, it could potentially prevent or slow down the skin aging process.
While more studies and research will need to be done before new skincare products based on this discovery, we are all hopeful for more effective anti-aging skincare options in the future! Apart from the aesthetic arena, scientists are hopeful that this finding may lead to additional research on the aging of other bodily organs and age-related disease.
