The next types of anti-aging cosmetic injections are dermal fillers.
What are dermal fillers and how are they different from wrinkle relaxers?
Dermal fillers are solutions (made of hyaluronic acid, poly-L-lactic acid, hydroxylapatite or other ingredients) that are injected into the skin to add plumpness and structure. As we age, our skin loses firmness and elasticity as well as structure, which leads to sagging skin that creates wrinkles or general droopiness. Dermal Fillers fill out these lines, bring up the face and make the face appear fuller (which is then seen as more youthful).
Fillers are different from wrinkle relaxers because where as the relaxers target the muscles causing the wrinkle and keep it from fully contracting, the fillers do not affect the muscles. The goal of fillers is to pump up the skin and add shape & contour.
What are fillers good for? Are there different types?
Fillers are great for making your face look fuller & younger. By softly filling out the wrinkles & fine lines, you still look natural (by which I mean, you don’t look “done) but noticeably younger.
One type of filler is hyaluronic acid filler. This is quite possibly the most popular type with such well-known brands such as Juvéderm, Restylane and Belotero. Hyaluronic acid fillers work quickly and last for about 6-12 months. One newer, specialized hyaluronic acid filler is Juvéderm Voluma XC which has been specifically designed to be injected into the cheek area, adding volume and lifting the entire face. Voluma can last up to 2 years.
Another type of filler that we offer is Sculptra Aesthetic, a poly-L-lactic acid solution that replaces collagen while also stimulating the body to produce more of its own collagen. As the collagen increases, skin’s volume returns creating a fuller & more youthful appearance. Sculptra may take longer to take effect, but typically lasts 2 years or longer and is typically injected into the cheeks or temple area.
The final type of filler that we offer is Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite gel that is generally injected into the cheeks, chin, or other deep lines & folds. Like the hyaluronic acid fillers, it works quickly, and like Sculptra it stimulates the body’s collagen production. Radiesse lasts for about a year or longer.
