Our blog series this month is entitled “What Services Do You Offer?” We have longtime and new patients who do not know what we offer, so we’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to treatments and procedures that we have here at Beverly Dermatology & Laser Center.
First, let’s start with Mohs Surgery.
We are a dermatology office, so I’m sure you know that we do whole body exams and mole evaluations to check for possible skin cancers. But did you know we also do Mohs Surgery? Mohs Surgery is considered by the medical community to be skin cancer removal surgery for basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. It involves taking small areas of tissue layer by layer to completely remove the tumor with the least amount of normal, healthy tissue.
Not all dermatologists may perform Mohs Surgery. While most dermatology residencies will include a basic introduction, not all derms go on to complete more advanced, intensive Mohs surgery and reconstruction training. Here at Beverly Dermatology, our board certified physician Roland S Beverly III MD has completed this advanced training and is a Fellow of the American Society for Mohs Surgery.
Dr. Beverly performs many of the surgeries in our Aliso Viejo office, but more delicate or intensive surgeries may be performed at the Pacific Hills Surgery Center in nearby Laguna Hills, CA. For skin cancers on areas of aesthetic concern, such as the face, Dr. Beverly will often be joined by Dr. Ernest Robinson (www.drface.com), a Board Certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, for the wound closure. This closure is typically covered by most insurance companies.
