What is it?
We all know that honey is a natural sweetener that comes from bees, but it has also been used in skin care for thousands of years across the world. Honey is full of proteins, amino acids, vitamins, enzymes and minerals that offer a variety of benefits to human skin.
What does it do?
Honey’s main benefits to skin are that it (a) is a humectant, so it absorbs moisture from the environment to help keep skin moisturized and (b) has anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties that may improve certain skin conditions, such as acne, and aid in wound healing. In particular, Manuka honey is often used for medicinal purposes.
It works best for:
*Acne – anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties may kill the bacteria that causes acne (p. acnes) and may also help heal inflamed skin
