Our blog series this month is entitled “What Services Do You Offer?” We have longtime and new patients who do not know what we offer, so we’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to treatments and procedures that we have here at Beverly Dermatology & Laser Center.
Many patients only think of coming to our office for general dermatology concerns such as acne or yearly skin checks, but did you know we are also a cosmetic dermatology office that offers a variety of non-surgical rejuvenation & contouring services such as soft-tissue fillers and wrinkle relaxers. Roland Beverly MD and Alisa Wang PA-C are both qualified and trained to inject soft tissue fillers and neurotoxins to add volume and/or contour to the face & body for a younger look.
Soft-Tissue/Dermal Fillers
For patients looking for a non-surgical, natural-looking cosmetic procedure that offers immediate results with virtually no downtime, soft tissue fillers are great options.
Fillers, which include well-known brands such as Juvéderm®, Juvéderm Voluma®, Belotero Balance® and Radiesse®, are used to add volume into certain areas of the face (typically the cheeks, nasolabial folds or lip lines) or hands that have gradually lost volume with age and excessive UV exposure. Most fillers are hyaluronic acid (HA) based which instantly plumps & firms the area, but the results improve over the next few days after treatment as the HA absorbs additional water & moisture for additional volume. Other options, such as Radiesse, work by injecting a safe, non-toxic substance to add volume but also promote the body’s own collagen production as well.

Wrinkle Relaxers (Neurotoxins)
Another non-surgical cosmetic procedure that can rejuvenate your facial appearance is BOTOX® & other similar wrinkle relaxers. Wrinkle relaxers, commonly referred to as neurotoxins, work very differently from fillers. Whereas fillers aim to add volume to the face (or hands), which will in turn reduce wrinkles by lessening the folds & lines that droopiness causes, neurotoxins work by relaxing the targeted muscle(s) and preventing them from contracting. Wrinkles will then lessen because the muscles are no longer contracting as strongly and forming the deep movements that lead to wrinkles. Wrinkle relaxers are best for the moderate to deep wrinkles common to the forehead, “11s” (lines between the brows. Also often called “frown lines”), crow’s feet and bunny lines (lines between the inside of the eyes and the nose. These procedures usually last 3-4 months for new users, but may last 6 months or longer with repeated use.

Total Facial Rejuvenation
Fillers and neurotoxins can be combined to achieve a total non-surgical facial rejuvenation. Even combining the two types of injections, the final result will be a natural-looking, younger appearance. A Popular combination is to inject BOTOX® into the frown lines & crows’ feet and to inject Juvéderm Voluma into the cheek area (which gives the entire lower half of the face a lift).
