OK guys, this month we are focusing on skin care concerns and topics that are tailored for YOU. While a lot of the same principles are also beneficial for women, this June – for Men’s Health Month – this month’s blog series is geared towards the guys, so stay tuned in! To kick us off, let’s set up some groundwork about how and why men’s skin care needs are different than women’s.
How Men’s Skin is Different
THICKNESS - One of the main differences is that men’s skin is thicker than women’s (20-30% thicker, on average). This additional thickness provides some additional protection from injury and damage
ANTI-AGING – Men’s skin has more collagen, which is great as we age because collagen creates and supports skin’s firmness.
OILINESS - Men’s skin produces more oil than women’s. The additional oil is a blessing and a curse. A blessing because skin oils keep the skin moisturized and looking young. A curse because that same oiliness leads to higher probability of acne and blackheads, among other things.
Skin Care Product Differences
More and more these days, companies are coming out with skin care lines specifically for men, targeting their specific needs and challenges. The main ingredients are often basically the same as those in women’s skin care products, but with different scents, possibly higher concentrations (men’s skin is more tolerant to higher percentages), and a more basic & streamlined product series.
