Occasionally, we will start bringing you blog posts about interesting studies and technologies in dermatology that are being developed. These posts will typically be separate from our monthly series, but are on topics that are relevant to dermatology and potentially to YOU!

Today, the topic is the wearable technology that is currently in development and is being studied for a variety of uses that may help physicians to diagnose & monitor skin & other health conditions. These devices are thin, breathable and very skin-like, but they have the capability to wirelessly send a variety of highly accurate information including temperature, moisture, skin stiffness, UV exposure, and many other attributes of the skin.

All of this data can help physicians to identify early signs of infection, skin cancers or other abnormalities and treat them before they fully develop. It may also help medical doctors and scientists to better understand how the skin heals wounds. This could have a huge impact on all areas of medicine by potentially improving wound closures and healing which could speed healing time after surgical incisions and reduce scarring.

While still in study and not widely available yet, we are excited for the potential uses & implications in dermatology & for health care in general!
