We have looked at a variety of options to help combat signs of skin aging, including topical creams & serums, cosmetic injections and lasers. Another option is chemical peels. The most popular peels for aging skin are the Enzyme Peel, Glycolic Acid Peel & the TCA Peel.

The Enzyme Peel is a mild peel that is great for all skin types, including sensitive skin. This peel gently lifts the surface cells (dead skin cell layer) to reveal the fresher, younger-looking skin below. At out office, the treatment also includes a microdermabrasion, which exfoliates away the dead skin cells. The microdermabrasion can be done at varying intensity levels to adjust to your skin’s specific needs and your skin type. A facial mask is applied to the skin to hydrate. After the peel, skin feels smoother & softer and appears brighter & refreshed, for an overall younger look to the skin. This peel’s gentle exfoliation has no downtime, burning, flaking or peeling, making it a great anytime peel.

The Glycolic Acid Peel is a bit stronger than the enzyme peel, but produces better results. The exfoliation goes deeper and helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles. It also helps counteract dryness & roughness of the skin as well as skin imperfections. Glycolic Acid also helps to promote the growth of collagen.

The TCA (tricholoracetic acid) peel is a medium depth peel; it is more aggressive than the two peels mentioned above and skin may peel for a few days after the treatment, but this peel typically has the best results. The TCA peel will help improve various signs of aging skin including fine lines, rough texture, and age spots/discoloration.

When considering a peel, keep in mind:

*Let your dermatologist or esthetician know your skin concerns so that he or she may best determine which peel may be the best for your skin.

*Peels are typically are best done in a series of treatments for the optimal results.

*Daily sunscreen use is HIGHLY encouraged in order to keep the fresh new skin from becoming sun damaged. This is especially true if you are trying to target age spots (which are really sun spots) and discoloration – getting UV damage will counteract the benefits of the peel.
