Chemical Peels

Chemical peeling is a treatment designed to remove layers of the skin. It is used to help smooth the skin, to reduce shallow wrinkling and scarring, to help "dry out" active acne and to lighten hyper-pigmented spots (dark patches on the skin).  Peels can be done from superficial to deep, with the deepest peels needed for extensive damage.

To see the best results with chemical peeling, it is important to visit a physician's office for treatment. No matter what some companies claim, you will not get the same results at home as you would in a professional setting. The ingredients found in over-the-counter (OTC) products are less concentrated and generally inferior to those available in a professional setting. While some peeling agents offered over-the-counter claim to be as effective as peels offered in a medical setting, the FDA only allows the stronger agents to be dispensed to physicians for use in their offices.

At Beverly Dermatology & Laser Center in Aliso Viejo, we offer a range of peeling agents available in a variety of strengths. During your appointment, we will guide you to find the treatment that will work best for you—a treatment that is personalized and specific to your skin type and your treatment goals.

Peeling treatments are most often classified by the depth of skin exfoliated. The major catagories of peel types are listed below. All of the peels are used to remove uneven and irregular pigments in the skin, allowing regeneration of new skin cells and collagen to smooth the surface or eliminate wrinkles.

  • Collagen regeneration
  • Moisture retention
  • Skin exfoliation
  • Oil regulation
  • Pigment irregularities
  • Melasma

Enzyme Peel

Our most popular peel. Patented exfoliating enzymes gently lift just the surface cells, leaving healthy functioning cells intact. Includes deep cleansing, microdermabrasion, enzyme peel, invigorating mushroom mask and a firming and hydrating serum followed by a smoothing cream. Results are cumulative, as improvements increase over a series of treatments.

  • No burning, peeling or flaking
  • No downtime
  • Brighter, softer and more uniform skin with regular treatments

Salicylic Acid Peels

These mild peels feature salicylic acid, a beta hydroxy acid that is ideal for acne prone skin. Salicylic acid is oil soluble, allowing for deeper penetration and better exfoliation of oily skin.  For best results, a series of peels is recommended.

  • Helps battle bacteria and cell build-up
  • Heals blemishes
  • Minimizes acne scarring

Glycolic Acid Peels

Glycolic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid that safely and gently exfoliates skin. This type of peel is mild enough for aging skin and other sensitive skin types. It is also great for improving mild to moderate sun damaged skin and acne scarring.

  • Reduces fine lines, wrinkles, dryness and imperfections
  • Assists in rejuvenation of environmental and photo damaged skin

Jessner's Peels

Jessner's Peels are superficial to medium depth peels, offering little to no downtime with minimal redness. Patients should expect some peeling within a few days of the treatment. It is typical that not all areas of the face peel uniformly. The number of peels required for any given problem varies with each patient and is determined by the patient and doctor. There is no limit to the number of peels a person can receive as long as improvement continues. Peels are typically spaced at two week intervals.

  • Intense exfoliation used to treat heavily sun damaged skin
  • Can lessen appearance of fine lines
  • Little to no downtime
