While many think of aging as merely getting wrinkles, it is also associated with the loss of volume in the face. As skin loses elasticity and collagen with age, the underlying muscle, fat and even bone structure in the face also loses volume. Facial features once accentuated by fullness become marked by more severe grooves, hollows and thin skin.  At Beverly Dermatology & Laser Center in Aliso Viejo, we are able to reverse many of these features of aging by restoring youthful volume and contours to the face. The newer volume-restoring fillers are the ideal way of achieving the desired result with minimal to no downtime and without the expense of surgery. Dr. Roland Beverly has been injecting wrinkle relaxers and soft tissue fillers for over 20 years, so feel confident that at Beverly Dermatology, you will be in the best hands!

With so many options for dermal fillers, it can be hard for you to know which one is best for your skin to achieve the results you desire.  Come visit Beverly Dermatology & Laser in Orange County, CA and Dr. Beverly will discuss with you the best treatment plan for you so that you have the best possible results!

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

The most popular facial fillers are the hyaluronic acid (HA) group. HA occurs naturally in skin and forms building blocks that deplete as we get older. When injected into the skin the HA molecules bind water molecules, instantly resulting in a look that is soft and natural. HA fillers have a low risk of side effects and provide long lasting results (at least 6-12 months). Our current hyaluronic acid fillers are JUVÉDERM® XCRestylane®,Perlane®, and BELOTERO BALANCE®.

We are excited to introduce JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC, a new filler designed to replace volume lost in the cheek area!

For more information about which filler is for you, please schedule a consultation or appointment with Dr. Beverly. Dr. Beverly is an expert on the differences between the fillers and which one you need to achieve the results you wish. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC is also a hyaluronic acid filler, but it is the first and only FDA-approved filler to add volume to the cheek area. As we age, loss of volume in the cheek area can significantly alter the look of the face, creating a face that sags and looks aged. VOLUMA™ replaces the volume that has been lost, giving your face a subtle lift and restoring a more youthful profile. Best of all, VOLUMA™ is clinically proven to last up to 2 years.

  • Only FDA approved HA filler to treat cheek area

Radiesse ®

RADIESSE® is a volumizing filler comprised of injectable calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a water based gel carrier. Calcium hydroxylapatite naturally occurs in the body and the synthetic form has been used for years in ear, vocal chord, dental and orthopedic applications. Similar to hyaluronic acid fillers, the effects of RADIESSE can be seen right away, but similar to Sculptra, RADIESSE stimulates your own natural collagen to grow. Your skin begins to regenerate its own collagen as the fillers diappears and creates a more permanent, nautral, youthful look. This collagen growth continues for several months after the initial injection, maintaining the effect of the RADIESSE treatment for a year or more.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the procedure take?

The session time varies based on the area(s) treated, but the average procedure is approximately 20 minutes from start to finish.

Will it hurt?

The needles are tiny, limiting discomfort. However, a topical anesthetic can be used to increase comfort. Lidocaine, an anesthetic, is often combined with fillers to increase comfort during your procedure.

Will there be any swelling or bruising?

The majority of patients experience little to no swelling. Bruising can occur, but it is the exception and not the rule. For those prone to bruising, bruises are usually minor and short lived.  Because blood thinners—such as asprin, Omega 3 fatty acids, fish oil and Vitamin E—can increase the chance of bruising, we ask that they be discontinued 2 weeks prior to your treatment. Do not stop any prescribed blood thinner (over the counter or prescription) without consulting your physician.

In our office, we also use CytoActive® Gel-Crème. CytoActive® is a hyaluronic-based gel that reduces the risk of bruising.

How much do I need?

This is varies greatly and depends on your individual skin chemistry, as well as the result you are trying to acheive.  Dr. Beverly will help you determine how much product is necessary to achieve your desired result for that session.

Is there a possibility of an adverse reaction?

There is a less than 1% chance of an adverse reaction. Hyaluronic acid is a substance already found in the human body which greatly reduces the risk of rejection. Hyaluronic acid fillers are also reversible, further limiting the risk of side effects. If a person chooses to remove the hyaluronic acid filler or if it must be removed due to an adverse reaction, Dr. Beverly can inject an agent to dissolve the product.
